Step 1: Prepare the vehicle
- Park the vehicle on a level surface.
- Warm up the engine slightly, but do not make it fully hot.
- Identify the transmission fluid fill port, which is usually the dipstick tube. In some vehicles, a fill bolt is used instead of a dipstick.

- Replace the drain plug.
- Using a funnel, add the new TOM’S PROFESSIONAL ATF FULLY SYNTHETIC fluid. Fill it to about 3.5 quarts, or the amount specified by your vehicle’s manual, to start.
Step 3: Circulate and check the fluid- Start the engine and let it idle.
- Shift the transmission through all of its gears (P, R, N, D, L, etc.), pausing for a few seconds in each position to allow the fluid to circulate.
- Let the engine run for a few minutes until the transmission fluid is warm.
- With the engine idling and still on a level surface, check the fluid level using the dipstick. The fluid level should be between the “cold” and “hot” marks. If it is low, add more fluid incrementally, re-checking the level each time, until it reaches the “warm” line.
